Systematics of 12 Jurassic, Cretaceous, and Paleogene squat lobster taxa (Galatheoidea)

چکیده
Abstract Squat lobsters within Galatheoidea are very diverse with over 1,300 extant species that live in all marine ecosystems, but their fossil record, starting the Middle Jurassic, consists of only ~200 species. Consequently, much remains to be learned about biodiversity, phylogeny, and paleobiogeography. We describe five new ( Galatheites sforum n. sp., Kimmeridgian, Late Germany; Vasconilia zapotitlanensis Barremian, Early Cretaceous, Mexico; Eomunidopsis texcalaensis Protomunida bennickei Danian, Paleocene, Denmark; eurekantha Denmark) one genus Tethysgalathea gen., Ypresian, Eocene, Italy). further reassign Munida cretacea (Albian, Texas, USA) Galathea? , return Eomunidopsis? cobbani (Campanian, Colorado, its original genus, report on second occurrence Vetoplautus latimarginus Robins et al., 2013 (Tithonian, Czech Republic), reinstate Palaeomunidopsis moutieri (middle Bathonian, France) as oldest galatheoid known date. The species, found limestones containing corals, increase diversity record by 2.5%. Finally, common yet hitherto unrecognized was discovered making casts external molds, revealing distinct spines posterior margin more difficult see internal molds specimens cuticle due breakage. Systematics of Hypocrea citrina and related taxa
Morphological studies and phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequences from three genomic regions - the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of the nuclear ribosomal gene repeat, a partial sequence of RNA polymerase II subunit (rpb2), and a partial sequence of translation elongation factor (tef1) - were used to investigate the systematics of Hypocrea citrina and related species. A neotype specim...
متن کاملThyasirid bivalves from Cretaceous and Paleogene cold seeps
We present a systematic study of thyasirid bivalves from Cretaceous to Oligocene seep carbonates worldwide. Eleven species of thyasirid bivalves are identified belonging to three genera: Conchocele, Maorithyas, and Thyasira. Two species are new: Maorithyas humptulipsensis sp. nov. from middle Eocene seep carbonates in the Humptulips Formation, Washington State, USA, and Conchocele kiritachiensi...
متن کاملTime scales of critical events around the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary.
Mass extinctions manifest in Earth's geologic record were turning points in biotic evolution. We present (40)Ar/(39)Ar data that establish synchrony between the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary and associated mass extinctions with the Chicxulub bolide impact to within 32,000 years. Perturbation of the atmospheric carbon cycle at the boundary likely lasted less than 5000 years, exhibiting a recover...
متن کاملPlant Ecological Strategies Shift Across the Cretaceous–Paleogene Boundary
The Chicxulub bolide impact caused the end-Cretaceous mass extinction of plants, but the associated selectivity and ecological effects are poorly known. Using a unique set of North Dakota leaf fossil assemblages spanning 2.2 Myr across the event, we show among angiosperms a reduction of ecological strategies and selection for fast-growth strategies consistent with a hypothesized recovery from a...
متن کاملGalatheoidea are not monophyletic - molecular and morphological phylogeny of the squat lobsters (Decapoda: Anomura) with recognition of a new superfamily.
The monophyletic status of the squat lobster superfamily Galatheoidea has come under increasing doubt by studies using evidence as diverse as larval and adult somatic morphology, sperm ultrastructure, and molecular data. Here we synthesize phylogenetic data from these diverse strands, with the addition of new molecular and morphological data to examine the phylogeny of the squat lobsters and as...
